i feel ridiculously self-conscious of my art posting content as of late, seeing as it's just... rachael penny rachael penny rachael penny random pokemon
but im doing my studies, so that's good... i should try to make more comics... umm to keep up the tradition of having a post for almost every day of the month here is my contribution for today

the slant
i noticed something peculiar today. all my drawings on paper (and digital, when im working fast and cant do a flip check) have a very noticeable left slant to them... fixed it a bit in these sketches but yeah.
def getting more comfortable drawing on paper from my imagination. it's nice!!
edit: here is what i mean... the original draw, flipped horizontal- (also her shoe/leg combo looks like a horses hoof?!? great draw....)

and this one is topical
also have this
papier forever
i mean... i bought 1000 sheets of printer/copy paper off ebay and the box weighs more than my left leg.. i'll never run out of paper again and it gives me ton of scrap to improve my drawing on paper skills

n/a
my contribution to society for today... tried be conscious of silhouettes and shape design WHICH IS VERY HARD TO DO WHEN PEOPLE ARE SNOGGING!
still life and etc
okay, i have a confession. i suck at still lifes. (lives?) i mean really suck. my eyes go all crossy when i'm trying to measure and yeah bad times at still life high.
so of course this means i'll be switching gears a bit and spending 3000 hours drawing apples and water bottles and clothespins and turning them into spheres and cylinders and boxes and etc etc etc
moral of the story is don't only ever draw from photographs kiddies... gotta fine tune your 3-D seeing skills.

todays sketchbook
today was interesting art-wise. found Tom Richmond's blog- he does caricatures for MAD magazine. lots of tutorials on that there. also stuff about hands.
i drew a bunch of shapes on my sketchbook page then slapped features onto them. it made me giggle a bit seeing such crazy proportioned stuff when i'm so used to being meticulous with my art

tegakie stuff
soo i've been spending too much time lallygagging on Tegakie (oh yes, that is rachael amps featured on the front page B]) it's an oekaki-type site where you use a simple flash interface to draw. there aren't any layers, no pressure sensitivity, etc. it's a challenge but it's where i made all my characters i have now : )
ANYWAY! one of the groups i'm in is a school-type scene, so i app'd rachael and penny as um... schoolgirls. it's like, a time warp. how embarrassing. (the word schoolgirl always sounds so fetishy...)
this is what i've been up to

and more gestures
for the sake of not making it look like every sketchbook i do is full of wonderful pretty gesture drawings, this is what a typical page looks like when im warming up:
10 second leg gestures... and for another cute little thing, this is the notebook i keep on my desk. unfortunately i dont follow it very well :P i should do more portfolio pieces.

gestures
well i am just as pleased as punch!! i have this one pen that is like a fine felt tip marker, and i did gestures on lined notebook paper- and it cleaned up perfectly in photoshop! i feel like a million bucks. you cant even tell they were done on crappy paper and the line is sooo clear. hooray!!

saturday seesaw comics #1
my good friend Alexa and i did this cute thing where one of us draws a comic panel, then the other draws the next one and we alternate. and then we put in text for the other person's panel too! it's fun you should try it

skools
aghhh, i have so much trouble drawing still life things. it's not like a figure where it's a gesture... do you plot points and measure them? must keep practicing...
