HOLY UPDATES BATMAN!

im finally FINALLY back at one of the places i sometimes stay at in providence that has a scanner (as you can see i am She Who Roams A Lot, i think i've stayed in 4 different places this month?) it's really hard to juggle new living stuff annnnd time to art, but that's the challenge of an artist and one i have to learn to manage with. without further adieu here is what i've been up to...

the previous weekend i stayed at my grandma's summer house by the beach. it was super relaxing and a well needed vacation... i sketched a bit of the houses and stuff that are along the coastline, and of course did my fair share of gesture draws at the beach (though due to my vampire-pale complexion, i could only get 30 minutes in before i was a lobster)

there was a week where i was at my moms, did mostly digital art and uploaded most of the good stuff here already. i then went back to providence, to another friends house and stayed there for 4 days, in which i started picto-journaling a bit but got distracted uh...

while i was traveling around job hunting i brought my sketchbook with me and drew people at the mall and cafes, nothing too out of the ordinary. i need to develop a better life-sketching shorthand, i have a lot of trouble with faces and hands??

annnd heres the fun stuff. as you may know i live by the risd museum of art and they have some pretty premium paintings, but my favorite is this room where it has all these facial feature engraving etching things drawn on the wall. studying those is helping me get better at rendering with pencil.

so from all of this ive discovered i need to study more: hands, as always. develop a gesturing shorthand. be more mindful of proportions. figure out how to gesture peoples heads when drawing them in a cafe? likenesses, and um.. yeah. but beyond that im pretty pumped about all the stuff ive been able to draw in just a months time

im alive

im not dead! i swear im not dead! i've been really busy. i did some gesture drawing at the beach but my scanner is back at the house in providence (im back home in CT for the week for some teeth work)

i will put more effort into balancing job searching/applying/general steps to establishing a new life along with my art too.

poocaso

this comic is like 4 weeks old by now but i never had the chance to upload it here... it was for a group event thing, there was some dance that you were supposed to draw your characters at but i did this instead so yeah...

also included in this update are really loose comic idea sketches and embarrassing attempts at drawing a guitar from "real life." and, a slight case of bowieism

museum

today was...

super.. special.. awesome.. superb.. great.. amazing.. really cool...

i live by risd now so i went to their museum. omg... they have this big room where on the walls are all these etchings that some italian guy did of facial features. he is a master at cross hatching. there was no way for me at the time to replicate what he did, but i tried! there were a lot of paintings too. it was really tough drawing from them, my life drawing skills need severe polishing. i have a lot of trouble measuring correctly and transferring it down onto paper. im much more gestural, so i need to tighten up my observation skills. god it was so neat!! i even drew my friends legs when she was napping lmao

all and all a really cool art day. and i got tons of supplies at a donation thingy, 5 dollars for a whole roll of newspaper print, tracing paper, a tracing paper pad, a NEWSPRINT pad, drawing pad, set of charcoal, fixitive, a new sharpener.. yeah it was neat

okay, enough blabbering :) btw, this is the museum i went to:
